UTN's Medal of Merit
UTN's Medal of Merit is awarded to those who have made extraordinary contributions that have benefited UTN as an organisation, UTN's members, the commitment within UTN, Uthgård, the students at Uppsala University's Faculty of Science and Technology or the strengthening of Uppsala's education and research in engineering and science.
UTN's Pedagogical Award
Each year UTN awards a teaching award to a teacher who has demonstrated extra commitment and great pedagogical skill. This can involve a very high level of personal involvement with the students or someone who uses innovative pedagogical teaching methods.
Who gets the prize? Well, the Education Committee appoints a jury that selects from among the best nominees. An overall assessment is made in which commitment to the students and pedagogical skills are highly valued. Here you can see who has been awarded the UTN Pedagogical Award.
Marshalls of the Pillars
The Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students has a long-standing union building that was erected in 1859. However, it was not built with monitoring of student interests or social gatherings in mind; its purpose was to serve the Swedish war machine.
When Uppsala Engineering Student Union decided to move into Uthgård, they were hardly impressed by the ceiling height. In order to be able to operate on the upper floor, the house had to be stabilized. Three pillars were erected in the Ericsson saloon and the house was saved.
Over time, the pillars were renamed Lättja, Fjättja and Kättja and three members were appointed to be their protectors. The patrons were called Marshalls of the Pillars and only the most prominent members were allowed to bear the heavy responsibility.
But the task of the Marshalls of the Pillars is not only to safeguard the survival of three columns. Their task is also to be the cultural bearers of the organization and to be responsible for the UTN officials' dinners.
